PVC (polyvinyl chloride) is the main ingredient in VEKA's compound. This mixture results from a combination of natural gas and rock salt. In it's pure state, PVC does not have the qualities associated with VEKA vinyl like durability and weatherabiltity.

To increase the performance characteristics of PVC, VEKA adds seven different microingredients to PVC. These seven ingredients, combined with superior methods of blending, differentiate VEKA compound from other extruded vinyl on the market.

VEKA's microingredients address specific needs of a high quality, durable, VEKA vinyl system. Heat Stabilizers minimize the effect of heat (solar radiation) on the vinyl window. Impact Modifers will strengthen PVC to prevent damage during fabrication, shipping, and operation of the window unit. UV Stabilizers resist fading of the vinyl material caused by ultraviolet light exposure. Lubricants provide a smooth finish on the vinyl surface frame.

Processing Aids help the compound maintain consistency as it changes into a plastic. This ensures consistent quality in the finished product and predictable, consistent fabrication. VEKA uses two different Pigments to impart color to our vinyl. One is used depending on the desired result.

Almond pigment creates a light beige color while Titanium Dioxide (TiO2) imparts a brilliant white color to the vinyl and helps to reflect the sun's rays from the finished surface. Calcium Carbonate, referred to as a filler, replaces some of the PVC to increase impact and tensile strength to the finished material. This formulation results in superior vinyl products that will not rot, chip, corrode, peel, or blister.

Maximizing the design of a particular fenestration product is accomplished through the use of CAD (Computer Aided Design) technology. Profiles can be accurately created, critiqued, and redesigned until the final form is achieved. Modern computers are able to streamline the design process by alleviating many of the cumbersome mathematical tasks required to complete all the drawings vital to a vinyl profiles.

Upon completion, these drawings are electronically transferred to automated die making machinery. With the precision of a fine craftsman, exact dimensional drawings are transformed into extrusion tooling. This process, commonly referred to as CAM (Computer Aided Manufacturing), is a critical step in the extrusion process.

Artificial intelligence also plays a major role in the blending process. Proper amounts of the micro-ingredients are blended into a homogenous mixture that is controlled by computer driven scales. These scales, accurate to 1/100th of a pound, ensure that every batch of compound retains the same high quality performance characteristics.

Micro processors monitor and integrate every stage of production from the time the raw materials arrive by rail to the time the extruded vinyl lineals are shipped by truck. Information pertaining to the quality and consistency of the raw materials, the performance of the manufacturing machinery, and the status of the extruded vinyl allows quality assurance inspectors to maintain efficiency and consistency in every process.

Linking the entire manufacturing process through an information highway is the most effective means to maximizing production efficiency. Computer Integrated Manufacturing consolidates the efforts of all departments. It combines engineering, production, quality assurance, shipping, and customer service into a single unified entity whose sole purpose is to produce the highest quality products available today.
